Bus services such as Greyhound and Premier Motor Service also service the town due to its location on the A1 Bruce Highway, it is also the first town tourists visit heading north in the region. Tourism is increasing in Proserpine with new attractions planned including camping and recreation at the nearby Lake Proserpine, a free RV park, a Waterpark at the Proserpine Pool and an expansion of the Whitsunday Gold Coffee farm and farmers markets on the north side of the town, other attractions include the Proserpine Museum, Crocodile Safari at Glen Isla, Fishing at Lake Proserpine.
It provides important social and transport infrastructure including the rail station, mainland airport, 2 high schools 1 public,  1 Catholic the hospital and other vital services. Whitsunday Regional Council also has its main offices in Proserpine. Logistical[ edit ] Due to the towns location along the important arterial road, the Bruce Highway, the town hosts transportation depots which play an integral part in the effective distribution of a variety of goods across the region.
It is also hoped the development of an inter-modal transport hub at the Proserpine airport that the town could become a logistical hub for greater North Queensland. In June international Swedish furniture manufacturer and retailer IKEA opened a distribution point in the town's main business park.

The Dittmer Gold Mine has been closed since the s, mining and panning for gold for commercial and recreational purposes still occurs in the vicinity. Wilson's Beach, a short drive from town. There's also message boards on quite a few different subjects.

I do not have happy memories and never received parcels family had sent for me, luckily I was only there about a year but had very bad nightmares on my return. I remember an old tree on the beach which must have been close and we stood inside it as most of the trunk was broken.
Wilton House School, Hastings Road. Wilton House has been pulled down, also charters Towers, Hastings Road has changed so much. Does any one remember Muddy Lane, the lane ran at the back of the school right up to the old town in Bexhill? I would love to hear of others memories of Wilton House.

The most outstanding memory for me was, early one morning the ceiling in what was my classroom came crashing down, luckily we had all just gone into the dining room in the next room for our breakfast.

I remember the big dining room, because every day some of us were chosen to clear up after meals, it seemed to take so long.

I also remember a young Canadian girl there. The girl that went over the bannister I think was called Linda Turner. My sister's name was Leigh Trussler. My classroom was next to the dining room. School, from toand every summer of 65, I came from the Canary Islands. I remember very well Mrs Auers dog, and have plenty of photos of the school, specially of the summer courses. One of my teachers was Mrs Moore, she lived in Bexhill, very nice person. Inwent back, and found the building coming down to build houses, also have photos of this time.
Very sad to me, who had plenty of good memories and plenty of great friends.
My classroom was further up from the dining room on the right hand side, not far from Mrs Auer's study. I have just spoken to my sister her name is winnie, and she remembers Pamela, I think they were in the same class, do you remember Ruth Tobin? The school, had the first floor: There was also 2 other floors,the first one for the girls,the second for boys and a third with two dormitories for boys.
Moore, Mrs Moore, Mr. Next to the old building, they builded a gymnasium. I left the school aboutyou may remember a french boy called John Claude who used to stay at the school during the summer holidays. Maybe Irene will remember some of the other names. My class next to the dining room had all the juniors. My sister and I were not there that long. I do remember a girl called Teresa, she was younger than me. She was in the infant class and slept in the nursery dormatory at the top of the stairs on the right. My sister slept on the top floor. I remember going to school saturday mornings as well.

It is free to enter your car or bike. There will be 14 categories. Show starts from 9am. Also on the day there will be freestyle moto cross displays, aerobatic display, trade displays, fashion parades and much more. The event will consist of a leisurely drive on both Saturday 7th October and Sunday 8th October, through the Gold Coast hinterland and neighbouring Tweed Valley.
